University of Toronto student Tracey Gray reads messages written on flags at White Mountain high altitude research station, Sept. 1 2006. The zoologist, along with around 20 other students from Canada are doing various research at White Mountain Peak high altitude research station, highest altitude research facility in North America on White Mountain, near Bishop, California. The research station is at 14,250 feet, just north of the Patriarch Grove area where ancient bristlecone pine trees grow. The station is operated by the University of California and used by astrophysicists, geologists, botanists and zoologists.
